calling all disabled artists

GDLP

I got a message today from Leah Clements with a link to this shared open letter that a few people have put together. It invites disabled artists, writers and cultural workers to share the impact that the PIP reforms are going to have on their life, practice, and their involvement in the cultural industry. If you have something to share, please click that link.

If this has nothing to do with you, well, it still does because you could become disabled tomorrow! and then what! I know some people don’t like that tact. they think non-disabled audiences should just care about the rights of other people no matter whether they have experience of the thing that others them. But I dunno. I am in year five of Long Covid and I have been having visions of that time Boris Johnson was in intensive care with Covid and – if none of these tyrants have gotten Long Covid so far, then there’s still time. There’s still tomorrow!

We all deserve dignity. They are about to take the mildest form of dignity away from millions of people. Many people will be in unnecessary pain, and I think some of those people will die.

There is a rally outside Downing Street at 11AM on Wednesday 26 March, led by Disabled People Against Cuts. Please go and show your support for all of us who can’t get there ourselves. You can find out more about the protests, and other ways to help, here.
