October 2025: Recipient 61, Matthew Elderton-Lewis

The 61st recipient of the White Pube Creatives Grant is … Matthew Elderton-Lewis! Matthew is a composer from Essex. We were enthused by the way Matthew’s work seems to exist in this medium of SOUND, as an abstract conceptual vehicle, as a material, as a way of exploring feeling and questions and tensions and things that maybe can’t find a way to be expressed neatly in language. Sound comes in to fill the gap. Matthew’s practice feels like this valuable thing, a conduit, a container. We are very pleased to be able to support his work in this way, and we hope this grant will be the first of many for him.

This 61st Creatives Grant was funded by Holly. Thank you Holly!

BIO: Born in Essex, Matthew Elderton-Lewis is a composer whose infectiously passionate personality and musical talent continue to emerge on both concert and multimedia stages across the United Kingdom and in the United States. With a style described as idiosyncratic and unapologetically cheeky, Matthew began gaining recognition for his work after receiving the ‘MMus Prize for Outstanding Achievement’ for his postgraduate degree.

Matthew’s music has been commissioned, performed, featured, and workshopped by ensembles such as the Essex Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Phacelia Ensemble, Riot Ensemble, Chroma Ensemble, Trilogy Ensemble, The Choir of Royal Holloway, and the Ligeti Quartet, as well as in solo collaborations with Catrin Finch, Carla Rees, and Bethan Conway. As a media composer, Matthew has maintained a busy schedule working on several advertisements, scoring competitions, trailers, and short films. Most recently, he contributed music to Paul G. Raymond’s award-winning short film, The Suicide (2025).
